In June of 2005, I found out that I had a form of very aggressive breast cancer.
I endured five surgeries, 6 harsh chemos, and 6 ½ weeks of radiation treatments. I lost ½ of my colon as well. Through everything, I have at times felt like I was hanging on by a thread. I have learned how fragile and beautiful life really is. I painted “Hang on Flower” as I wanted to portray that even a delicate flower can weather even the roughest of storms, yet still hang on and have much to offer. This painting won third place in a National art contest for cancer survivors sponsored by Gilda's Club, and was auctioned at Sotheby's in New York. I pray that in all my art, I capture the beauty in this world, and pass it onto others with the hope of a more beautiful tomorrow. |
